Native Plants

Why utilize native plants in landscapes?

  1. Best adapted to local climate
  2. Require less watering (once established)
  3. Require no fertilizing (once established)
  4. Are drought tolerant
  5. Are very attractive to native wildlife (birds, butterflies)
  6. Are low maintenance

While consideration should be given to using native plants in natural plantings, not every plant in a landscape needs to be native.  Many non-native species have proven to be quite succesful (over native plants) over time.  As long as there is no threat of a non-native plant becoming invasive, non-native plants may be considered.
