Honey locust plant bug (and leaf hopper) causing distortion to newly forming leaves.

Description: Insect that feeds on newly emerging leaves causing a distortion of ash or honey locust leaves. Damage on ash trees is noticeable at same time as anthracnose.

Trees Affected: Ash, honey locust

What to look for: Yellowing, stippling or distortion of leaves as they emerge. Honey locust trees often have leafhopper feeding at the same time causing similar damage.

Treatment Options: Insecticide sprays as leaves emerge or as populations reach high numbers. Keep tree as healthy as possible with watering and mulching. Do NOT fertilize trees with a high amounts of nitrogen (can lead to increase in insect populations).
